VLSI Implementation of an Analogue, Programmable SC Filter for Polish Speech Synthesis

A VLSI implementation of one path of formant vocoder for Polish speech synthesis is presented. Implementation of the path of formant synthesiser with use of digitall prgrammable switched capacitor (SC) second order low-pass filters and analysis of these filters have been shown. The filters form parallel signal path. In order to reduce the chip area each such filter is designed for specified band of programming capability includes 16 different values of Q factor and 32 center frequencies for each filter. Non-binary capacitor arrays are used in filters to facilitate appropriate programming independently of Q factor and center frequency. Each filters contains non-inverting integrators in order to reduce the errors in their transfer function due to the finite gain and bandwidth of operational amplifiers.
