Description of SLE in binary systems formed by 1-alkanols with n-alkanes

Abstract

Nine sets of data on solid-liquid equilibrium (SLE) for 1-alkanol (1) + n-alkane (2) systems are examined. The experimental results are correlated using Redlich-Kister, Wilson, UNIQUAC, NRTL, NRTLMKT and NRTLmKW equations. The best correlation of the solubility data is obtained by the use of the NRTLMKT and NRTLmKW equations which take into account the temperature dependence of the association constant K. These models are also able to predict precisely the experimental eutectic points. Excess Gibbs energies along the saturated lines are calculated for all systems investigated. Correlation of two solubility branches is presented and fully discussed.
