Influence of gamma radiation on active materials

AbstractThe results of investigations of gamma radiation influence on laser performance of Nd:SLGO, Er:YAG and CTH:YAG crystals were reported. Twice and fourfold increase of optical output was stated for Er:YAG and Nd:SLGO, CTH:YAG lasers, respectively. The increase takes place due to color centers created by gamma quanta, that is due to additional absorption bands appearing in the crystals after gamma irradiation.
