The Effect of Graphene Monolayer on Structural, Mechanical and Corrosion Properties of Multi-Coating System, Based on SiN Thin Film, Deposited on Ti6Al4V Alloy Surface

AbstractWe report the influence of the graphene monolayer on structural, mechanical and corrosion properties of Ti6Al4V/SiN structure. The graphene monolayer introduces at the structure interface, between titanium alloy substrate and silicon nitride coating, in TiAlV/graphene/SiN coatings system, reduces the adhesion of silicon nitride thin film to the titanium substrate. The silicon nitride thin film breaks and comes off from the surface during the process of creation of the hybrid system. This leads to reduction of the TiAlV/graphene/SiN coatings system corrosion resistance in compared with the TiAlV/SiN coating system. The graphene monolayer deposited on the top of the TiAlV/graphene/SiN coatings structure, seals it affecting an increase in the corrosion resistance of the TiAlV/graphene/SiN/graphene hybrid system, in compared with TiAlV/graphene/SiN coating system and TiAlV/SiN system. It is shown by a decrease in the value of the corrosion current density and shift corrosion potential towards positive values, characteristic for noble metals.
