AbstractRare earth doped solid state light sources are continuously considered as irreplaceable in all applications requiring excellent optical parameters of the beam together with high power levels. Therefore, there is a continuous need for development of novel methods and tools enabling versatile optical characterization of luminescent properties of crystals and glasses doped with RE3+ ions. This is particularly important when up-conversion phenomena are considered, resulting in emission at wavelengths shorter than those used for optical excitation.
