Upconversion phenomena in oxide and fluoride glasses doped with erbium

Rare earth doped solid state light sources are continuously considered as irreplaceable in all applications requiring excellent optical parameters of the beam together with high power levels. Therefore, there is a continuous need for development of novel methods and tools enabling versatile optical characterization of luminescent properties of crystals and glasses doped with RE3+ ions. This is particularly important when up-conversion phenomena are considered, resulting in emission at wavelengths shorter than those used for optical excitation.
