Spectral VIS Measurements for Detection Changes Caused by Mycoplasma Synoviae in Flock of Poultry

AbstractThe publication presents an innovative technique for detecting a risk of infection of a poultry flock with Mycoplasma synoviae (MS). A study of 120 eggshells was carried out. Half of them were white, half were brown. In each group of a given color, 30 pieces came from a healthy flock and 30 from a flock infected with MS. The egg shells are usually waste from farms. In our experiment they are tested. Graphs of visible light transmission of shells are the results of performed measurements. To obtain the satisfactory result, one of the three parameters based on the transmittance curve shapes in range 640-690 nm has to be calculated, then the parameter of dispersion – IQR for the examined group is determined and compared against the reference value presented in the article. Application of the method could limit secondary infection with MS bacteria in other birds during storage in unmonitored places.
