Abstract

It is generally accepted that nanostructuring of metallic materials leads to significant increase of their hardness, so improving the wear resistance is also expected. In this chapter we show that the effect of grain refinement on wear behavior of titanium is strongly related to tribological factors, e.g. material of counter specimen, loading mode, and environment (lubricants). Various tribological pairs with nanocrystalline titanium in selected environments were studied and are discussed.
