Risk-Based Decision Making in IoT Systems

Abstract

We propose a general framework for systems of the Internet of Things based on ideas of reliability trust, transaction gain, and risk. The major contribution of this work is the integration of the reliability trust estimated at the perception layer and risk estimation based on global control information provided by the cloud layer. We propose establishing a decision-making process on a random variable-based gain-loss model and methods of choice under risk. The proposed approach is general – it can be used for a wide range of trust-based decisions undertaken in the perception layer, such as routing, sensor selection, data aggregation, intrusion detection, and others.
