A new approach to design of a cyberphysical system exemplified by its use in the electro-hydraulic hybrid drive

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) are the systems that link cyberspace with the physical world by means of a conglomerate of interrelated elements (sensors and actuators) and computational capabilities. The paper is focused on a new and uniform method of CPS systems design. The task of designing the complex CPS system requires the solution of multi disciplinary problems which arise from the use of many different technologies. In this paper we use a new, task-oriented, method of designing the CPS systems which is illustrated by its application in electro-hydraulic hybrid drive of a city vehicle. In the considered hybrid drive, an electric drive is cyclically supported by a hydrostatic drive during acceleration or regenerative braking of the vehicle. The results of experimental studies presented in this paper were obtained from a designed and built laboratory model of a lightweight delivery van for city traffic and equipped with the studied hybrid drive. The obtained results suggest the possibility to considerably increase the effectiveness of energy conversion in the electric drive of the vehicle by means of the hydrostatic support. By applying the proposed task-oriented design method it was possible to design and build an efficient hybrid drive in which the load on the electric battery can be significantially decreased by use of hydrostatic support.
