On the theree forces problem in truss topology optimization analytical and numerical solutions

Abstract

The present paper delivers exact solutions of an important subclass of the general and fundamental problem of three forces and its application in optimal designing of the plane pin-jointed frameworks loaded and supported in more complicated way. As an example, the exact analytical solution of the lightest fully stressed frameworks transmitting two vertical loads to two roller supports is presented in detail and this new exact solution seems to be new. The solution is derived in half-analytical way: the optimal topology is firstly recognized numerically and then specified by analytical formulae. The computer program applied delivers sequences of layouts apparently converging to the global optimum and offers highly accurate numerical results which can be viewed as valuable hints for new analytical designs
