Enhancement of Ground to Aircraft communica-tion using audio watermarking

Abstract

Target of this paper is to improve the intelligibil-ity of spoken messages transmitted to the aircraft from the ground station. The proposed solution is based on selective calling (SELCAL) system and audio watermarking tech-nique. The most important elements of a spoken message (commands, numerical values) are transmitted as a water-mark embedded in speech signal and displayed to the cock-pit crew. Synchronization signal is embedded in SELCAL duo-tones. The proposed system is robust to resampling and channel noise (at SNR > 25 dB).
