Zinc Chloride Catalyzed Ring Opening of 3-Mono- and 3,3-Disubstituted Glycidonitriles by Means of Acetyl Chloride

Abstract

Glycidonitriles, when treated with acetyl chloride in the presence of catalytic amounts of zinc chloride, afforded mixtures of chloroacetoxynitriles (1) and acetoxycyanoalkenes. Isolated nitriles (1) treated with triethylamine transform into substituted acetoxyacrylonitriles.
