Phase Equilibrium and Oxidation Behavior of Ti‐Al‐Nb Alloys

It is well known that Nb addition effectively improves the oxidation resistance of TiAl and Ti3Al. Thus, the effect of Nb on the oxidation behavior of α‐Ti alloys was investigated. It was found that Nb is effective to improve the oxidation resistance of the α phase as well as TiAl and Ti3Al. Phase equilibrium was also investigated in Ti‐Al‐Nb alloys. A smaller α + α2 two‐phase region was obtained compared with the calculated isothermal section.
