Buckling strength of a steel multi-storey framework according to Eurocode’s general method

Aspects of design according to EN 1993-1-1:2005 procedures and related to steel semi-continuous frames composed of I-section members are dealt with in relation to the so-called Eurocode’s general method. Different problems of design verification criteria of frameworks composed of members subjected to axial compression as well as one directional bending are focused on. An algorithm of the framework resistance verification according to different procedures is presented. The design example of a multi-storey steel framework with non-composite beams restrained against lateral-torsional buckling and columns susceptible to lateral-torsional buckling illustrates simple and more advanced verification procedures of framework resistance verification. Concluding remarks yielding from this example are presented.
