Heart-on-a-chip - Studies on cardiac (H9C2) cell proliferation using impedance spectroscopy

Abstract

In this paper, we present integrated microdevices to study cardiac cell proliferation using impedance spectroscopy. Two microsystems with different geometries of the microchamber and Pt/Al electrodes were used in our experiments. The culture medium and 10 μM verapamil hydrochloride solution were delivered to H9C2 cells for 96 h continuously. It was investigated, that during the perfusion conditions, an increase of cell proliferation was observed. In turn, continuous exposure of verapamil inhibited cell growth. It was confirmed that impedance spectroscopy can be used for analysis of cardiac cells proliferation successfully.
