Spatially modulated optical tensors in magnetic superlattices

Abstract

The spatial modulation of the third-rank optical tensor in superlattices with a ferromagnetic helix as in Dy/Y is calculated. It is shown that a light wave transmitted through a thin layer of such a helical superlattice in a Fabry–Pérot cavity exhibits the intensity type optical bistability which is enhanced in comparison with that appearing in a magnetic medium with spatially uniform spin order.
