Effect of quenching rate on magnetic properties and local magnetic anisotropy in Fe78Si9B13 glass

Abstract

The coercive field Hc, remanence Br and orientation of the local magnetization were investigated in as-quenched Fe78Si9B13 amorphous ribbons of various thickness (12–35 mm) and width (2–18 mm). The thickest and narrowest ribbons (cast with minimal quenching rate QR) exhibit the lowest Hc, highest Br and random orientation of spins. Spin alignment in a ribbon plane is favored for the ribbons produced with higher QR.
