Visualization of turbulent combustion of TNT detonation products in a steel vessel

AbstractMixing and afterburning of TNT detonation products in a steel vessel are recorded by the use of the Schlieren visualization system and high speed photography. The vessel is filled with air or 50\% oxygen enriched air. Overpressure histories at the vessel wall are also recorded by using pressure transducers. In these experiments nitrogen, air or 50\% oxygen enriched air are used as vessel fillers. The Oppenheim-Kuhl theory of thermodynamics of closed systems is applied to estimate the released energy on the basis of pressure histories.
