Deformation structures in a new Ni-base superalloy after creep and high cycle fatigue tests

This study can be summarized as follows: • deformation mechanism of crept samples strongly depends on testing conditions with one dominant mechanism prevailing but also accompanied with others, • dominant creep mechanism depends chiefly on testing temperature which directly influence mobility of dislocations, • γ′ precipitates are obstacles in dislocation motion below 800°C, above this temperature cross slip or dislocation climb occur frequently and γ′ precipitates are no longer effective obstacles, • specimens subjected to high cycle fatigue differ in deformation mechanisms from the crept ones. No shearing but bowing of γ′ precipitates was observed. • slip of partial dislocations is more favorable under fatigue loading conditions in comparison to creep.
