Innovative solution of fibrous filters for deep-bed filtration

Standard polypropylene fibrous filters and filters produced for arsen removal, modified by hematite nanoparticles on the fibers surface, were examined in theoretical considerations of solid particles removal from water. The adhesive forces of both filters were calculated and compared with each other in the environment of variously charged contamination. The results show an improvement of the filter performance depending on the contamination charge. This development may result in higher separation efficiency and reduced resuspension of the deposited particles during the filtration process. As in water systems most of the solids are negatively charged, the surface modifications towards positively charged can enhance depth filters performance.
