Nonlinear effects and energy flows in the semiclassical dynamics of atomic electrons in strong laser fields

Abstract

The motion of one atomic electron in the field of a positive charged nucleus and under the action of a strong laser field is investigated by semiclassical methods. Our main interest is a systematic study of the energy transfer from the laser field to the atomic electrons. Two simple models of the ionization of hydrogen-like atoms in the presence of strong laser fields are studied in detail focusing on the influence of nonlinearity on the electron dynamics.
