The Institute of Micromechanics and Photonics
Faculty of Mechatronics
Homepage
The Institute was established in 1970 under the name of the Institute of Design of Precision and Optical Instruments, as a fusion of the pre-existing Departments: Precision Instruments - directed by Prof. W. Tryliński, Optical Instruments - directed by Prof. J. Matysiak and Mechanics - directed by Prof. J. Lipka. The present name of the Institute was launched in 1996, and its current structure is a result of a reorganization of the Faculty of Mechatronics according to the provisions of the Statute of the Warsaw University of Technology (issued 1 September 2008) and a respective directive of the Rector. At present, the Institute consists of four Divisions: Photonics Engineering, Design of Precision Devices, Applied Mechanics and Virtual Reality Techniques, which are involved in scientific, research and teaching activity, as well as administrative and financial department. As on 01.12.2013, the Institute employs 46 persons, including 31 academic teachers: 2 tenured professors, 2 full professors, 5 associate professors, 15 assistant professors and senior lecturers, 7 assistants. The scientific staff of the Institute supervises 34 PhD students (participating in “Mechatronics” PhD studies) and conducts courses for all the students of the Faculty of Mechatronics within three fields of study: Mechatronics, Automatics and Robotics, Biomedical Engineering. The Institute also supervises two (out of ten) Polish language specializations at full-time studies (level I and II): Micromechanics, Photonics Engineering (both in the field of study of Mechatronics), English-language Photonics Engineering as well as a specialization (Mechatronic Devices) at part-time studies (level I).
